KNOLL ACRES COLLIES

December 8, 2009 Our Newest Puppy Litter Arrived!

As of 2/17/2010 all of the puppies from this litter have now been sold.  We anticipate another litter of puppies sometime late in the fall of 2010.

This website will be re-activated when another litter of puppies become available.

Formal puppy purchases for this litter will begin on Saturday, January 30, 2010.  You are welcome to make appointments for that day or the following week to visit the puppies. Then if you wish, you may take your purchased companion along home!  (We do not sell puppies on Sundays.)

On December 8, 2009, Cindy of Shepherds Knoll birthed a litter of eleven puppies!  Buddy is again the parent of this litter.  This is the third litter of puppies produced by Cindy and Buddy.  Subsequently, one of the puppies, a small runt, was not flourishing.  After trying to hand-raise the puppy with "puppy milk replacer", we had to euthanize him when he failed to thrive.  Consequently, we now have a remaining litter of ten puppies: one male and nine females.

Cindy is very good mother.  She is protective of her puppies and especially during the early weeks doesn't welcome strangers who may venture down to the barn where the puppies are.  Cindy produces good quantities of milk for her puppies.  This is evidenced by the rapid growth of very healthy puppies.  However, ten puppies require a lot of nourishment and would tax any mother, so we supplement their dog milk diet with a starter puppy mash soon after they are three weeks old.

Below: This is an outside picture of our horse barn where the puppies were born and where they will live until they are five or six weeks old.

This website will chronicle the development of this litter of puppies.  We anticipate sales for this litter will begin sometime in early February 2010.

The puppies were initially birthed a corner of our horse barn that was "walled off" with hay bales.  We created a "den" by covering the birthing area with plywood over the bales.  Since it has been chilly especially at night, we have supplied the area with a supplemental heater.

Below is a photograph taken 12/20/09 when the puppies were 12 days old.  At this point their eyes still haven't opened but will begin to open in a few days.

At 18 days of age (see picture below), the puppies' eyes are now open; they are becoming investigative and are exploring their small world.

After the puppies reach about five weeks of age, we will move them from the horse barn to the dog kennel area, where the puppies will have a large outside run area and inside shelter in the dog kennel house.

The picture below shows the puppies at 23 days of age eating supplemental puppy food out of a bowl.
